I'm Pretending to Be Twins Today
Long story. Two appointments. One face. Twice the wardrobe changes.
The scenario
You agreed to attend two unrelated events that overlap, and your strategy involves a wardrobe change, two slightly different hairstyles, and a believable family origin story.
Event A is at 10. Event B is at 10:45. They are on opposite sides of town. Cancelling either is socially impossible. You have, with the help of a friend and a hatbox, constructed an entire imaginary twin sibling who will be 'attending in your place' at Event A while you handle Event B.
It will work. It has to work. You'll be reachable on one number; the twin uses another. Don't say their name unless you have to.
Why it works
Sitcom-energy excuse. Implausible, charming, and gives the listener permission to root for you.
How to deliver it
- ★Name the twin. The twin must have a name.
- ★Use a slightly different greeting. Subtle commitment.
- ★Pre-text photos so the alibi has receipts.
- ★End the day exhausted and never speak of it again.
