Official User Guide
INeedAnAlibi.com User Guide
Everything you can do with the slot machine, the encyclopedias, and the resource hubs — plus our ethical-use guidelines.
1. The Alibi Generator
The centerpiece of the site is a casino-style slot machine that randomly picks one of your custom alibis. It is free, requires no signup, and runs entirely in your browser.
- Type up to 10 alibis (40 characters each).
- Pull the lever — or tap the sticky mobile button — to spin.
- The result is a uniform random pick from your list.
- Spin again as many times as you like.
2. Scenario Categories
Preset packs make it easy to get started. Pick a category and the slot machine loads a curated set of alibis you can spin immediately or edit.
- Work
- School
- Relationship
- Party / Funny
- Absurd / Fantasy
3. Creative Writing Uses
Writers use the generator to break blocks, prompt scenes, or sketch character behavior. Each spin is a constraint — and constraints are the engine of creativity.
4. Storytelling Uses
Use a spin as the inciting incident of a short story, the cover story of a character, or the worst-case explanation in a scene of confession. Pair with our /storytelling guides for craft frameworks.
5. Improv Uses
Coaches and players use spins as 'why are you late?' prompts, scene-opening offers, and warm-up suggestions. Visit /improv for full exercise libraries.
6. Humor Uses
Group hangs, party games, and comedy writing rooms can use the slot machine as a randomness engine. Randomness is one of the most reliable humor mechanics — see /humor for the why.
7. Character Creation
Spin to give a character an unexpected backstory beat. The friction between the character's tone and the random alibi often reveals their voice.
8. Scenario Customization
Use the customization panel to set machine color, background scene, spin duration, and sound. Settings save locally in your browser.
9. Saved Content
Your current alibi list and preferences are saved in browser localStorage. They persist across visits on the same device until you clear site data.
11. Resource Center
The /resources hub indexes every encyclopedia, hub, and FAQ on the site — the fastest way to explore beyond the generator.
12. Educational Resources
Our Humor, Creativity, Storytelling, Improv, and Party hubs publish long-form, research-aware articles. Each piece is original and edited by a human.
13. Ethical Use Guidelines
The platform is for humor, creativity, storytelling, role-playing, writing inspiration, and education. It is not for deception, fraud, evasion of responsibility, or illegal use. When the stakes are real, choose honesty.
